MAN vs FAT – A Football Weightloss Programme comes to Solihull

MAN v FAT Football is coming to Lode Heath

The popular MAN v FAT Football scheme which launched in Solihull in January last year is returning for a new free league at Lode Heath School, starting on January 31st.

Local men who want to tackle their weight issues now have the chance to join this incredibly successful weight loss league. With 95% of players losing weight and some players losing up to 70lbs during the 14 week league, it’s no wonder that the Football Association have officially endorsed the leagues.

Set up by Andrew Shanahan who himself lost five stone and was fed-up with weight loss classes just for women, MAN v FAT has been brought to the area by Solihull Council and combines football with 24/7 online and offline support. The leagues are different from the traditional football leagues, which many overweight and obese men find off-putting, because the weigh-in before each game contributes to the league position just as much as the score on the pitch.

As well as national press coverage and appearances on Sky Sports and BBC’s The One Show, last year also saw MAN v FAT Football receive the ultimate accolade: the first official endorsement that the Football Association have ever given to a weight loss company.

Andy Dyke, National Participation Manager of Recreational Football at the Football Association said, “Football doesn’t begin and end with the professional game, there are different levels and styles of football played throughout the UK. MAN v FAT Football is a brilliant initiative for anyone who wants to address their weight and start working their way back into playing football. The results of the leagues are extremely impressive and we are excited to see the impact this could have on men’s health across the country and around the world. You might be thinking that your footballing days are behind you, but MAN v FAT Football is a great bridge back into the national game. The FA are happy to back the scheme and suggest that players visit www.manvfat.com/football to get started.”

MAN v FAT Football launches at Lode Heath School from the 31st January and runs every Tuesday from 7.30-9.30pm for the next 14 weeks. It is completely free for Solihull residents and workers to register and the cost of games is also covered by Solihull Council. The only thing you have to lose in joining up is weight.

Players can join up at www.manvfat.com/football and they can get more information by calling 0845 163 0042 or emailing football@manvfat.com

Draft Local Plan Review Consultation – new drop in session.

A new drop in session where the Draft Local Plan can be discussed with Council officers has been scheduled for Monday 23 January, 10am-4pm in the café at Asda Shirley (Parkgate).

This Draft Local Plan will eventually replace the current Local Plan (December 2013), which the Council decided to review following the legal challenge to the housing requirement in the current Plan.

It is important for Solihull’s future that the borough has a plan in place that will support the creation of new jobs and homes in a planned and sustainable manner, while retaining the essential ‘Urbs in Rure’ character of the area.

Knowle Library – Saturday 14 January, 11am-3pm

Grant Success for the Neighbourhood Plan

Hockley Heath Parish Council have today heard that they have been successful in getting a grant to cover the initial costs associated with the development of the Neighbourhood Plan.

The grant,   from the Community Rights Programme (funded by the Dept for Communities and Local Government) is for £2,843 and will be used to develop and analyse the questionnaire which will go to all parish residents in the New Year.

There will be a community consultation day on Saturday 14th January in the Pavilion, which will be your chance to look at Solihulls local plan, and discuss what you would like to see happen in Hockley Heath.  A leaflet will be coming round to all households over the coming weeks to explain more about the process.

Draft Local Plan Review Consultation Opens

Local residents and businesses are being asked to comment on Solihull’s Draft Local Plan, when a consultation begins on Monday 5 December.

This Draft Local Plan will eventually replace the current Local Plan (December 2013), which the Council decided to review following the legal challenge to the housing requirement in the current Plan.

The Local Plan Review will also take into account the housing shortfall across the wider housing market area and aim to maximise the potential economic and social benefits for Solihull of the forthcoming HS2 Interchange Station.

The consultation will last for eight weeks, closing on 30 January 2017.

The outline programme for the review is below:

1. Draft Local Plan – consultation 5 December 2016 – 30 January 2017
2. Publication of Submission Draft (in light of comments from the present consultation) for further consultation – Spring 2017
3. Local Plan submission to Secretary of State – Summer 2017, which will then trigger an official Examination in Public (Winter 2017)

Councillor Ian Courts, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Managed Growth, welcomed the new Draft Local Plan:

“The proposed consultation is not a statutory requirement. However, we want local people and businesses to get involved in preparing a robust Draft Local Plan. We can then produce a Submission Draft before finally entering into the official consultation that comes before the Examination in Public. This is why the proposals at this stage are not fixed and why we are so keen for people’s views.

“I know it is vital for the future development of Solihull that the borough has a plan in place that can support the creation of homes and jobs in a planned and sustainable manner, while retaining the essential ‘Urbs in Rure’ character of the area.

“The final plan will have to juggle many competing forces, but to be effective, it really should have the involvement of residents, businesses, developers and the many other stakeholders that are affected. The question I would pose to everyone as they read through the plan and look at various sites is, ‘if not here, then where?’

“It’s important for local people to take the time to read the Draft Local Plan Review and see how it will affect themselves, their local area and the borough as a whole.”

The consultation will open on 5 December 2016.

The Council is launching an online portal to view the Draft Local Plan Review and submit comments directly. This will streamline the consultation and allow a more robust link between comments received and particular policies or proposals within the Plan. This will also help the public to see how their comments have shaped the next stage of the Plan. Please visit the website at http://www.solihull.gov.uk/lpr or go directly to the portal http://solihull.jdi-consult.net/localplan/

People will be able to discuss the plan in person with Council officers working on the Review at the following libraries, between 11am and 3pm:

The Core – Friday 9 December
Chelmsley Wood – Saturday 10 December
Dickens Heath – Saturday 17 December (closed 1pm – 2pm)
Balsall Common – Saturday 7 January
